LAFLA Relocates and Opens New Long Beach Office

(LOS ANGELES) (November 17, 2009) - The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA), one of the oldest and largest public interest law firms in the nation, has re-located and opened a new office in Long Beach at 601 Pacific Avenue, Long Beach, 90802. The office can be reached at (562) 435-3501.
Please join us for an Open House Celebration on December 16, 2009 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and meet your community attorneys, staff and client council members. The event’s program begins at 5 p.m. and will include Long Beach City Councilman, Robert Garcia. The International Children’s Choir will perform. Please RSVP for the event by calling (562) 304-2524 or e-mail bhuynh@lafla.org. Metered street parking is available as well as in adjacent city parking structures.

The new office is accessible to the community and close to public transportation. Attorneys and advocates provide a range of legal services in LAFLA’s priority areas of housing/eviction defense, family law/domestic violence, government benefits, immigration, and record expungement. LAFLA attorneys also staff a Domestic Violence Clinic and a Self Help Legal Access Center at the Long Beach Superior Court. Our attorneys also speak Spanish.

“We are pleased to open our new office where individuals and families can get to know LAFLA’s attorneys and advocates and how we can assist them with their legal problems,” said Silvia R. Argueta, LAFLA’s executive director. “At LAFLA we are committed to making equal justice for all a reality.”

LAFLA has been serving poor and low-income families in Long Beach and the surrounding area since 2001, when it merged with the Legal Aid Foundation of Long Beach (LAFLB), founded in 1953. The merger enabled LAFLA to expand its free legal services to a growing diverse community. Annually, LAFLA provides legal assistance to approximately 14,000 individuals and families and helps an additional 55,000 individuals and community partners through community education workshops and referrals.

The Long Beach Office has an active Client Advisory Council, whose members are involved in various outreach activities and provides critical feedback to our staff. The Client Council is chaired by Karen Adelseck of the Long Beach Senior Latino Club.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles is the frontline law firm for low-income people in Los Angeles. Since 1929, LAFLA has been committed to supporting families and the community through programs that ensure safe, affordable housing; maintain economic stability; promote safety, security, and health; serve populations with special vulnerabilities; fight discrimination, and protect human and civil rights.
