Long Beach Grand Cru!

TThe Long Beach Grand Cru is a premier, highly visible international wine competition and public tasting event that benefits the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA). Established in 1995, the annual event has grown in size and prestige and become well-known and respected locally, nationally and internationally.

For 2009, the following events will be taking place:

• Sponsor Party: April 22, 2009
• International Wine Competition: July 18–19, 2009
• VIP Party and Public Tasting: Saturday, August 22, 2009--Rainbow Lagoon Park, Long Beach
• Volunteer Party: August 26, 2009

In 2008, the public tasting event attracted approximately 1,300 business, civic and community leaders. Both the International Wine Competition and Public Tasting events raised over $331,000. The Grand Cru maintains a volunteer base of 300 individuals who are employed in various professions. Approximately 180 volunteers donated over 7,600 hours in 2008.

The Grand Cru solicits worldwide winery participation, and in 2008 there were 564 wineries that entered 1,947 wines from 24 states and 9 countries. Medals are awarded to winners in the following categories: Sweepstakes, Chairman’s Best of Class, Gold, Silver and Bronze. All of the competition medal winners are served at the Public Tasting Event. The Grand Cru Website www.grandcur.com has become very active with 85,000 – 150,000 Web hits during peak spring and summer months, and viewed annually by 827,558 visitors. Since its inception, the Grand Cru has raised over $2.8 million for LAFLA’s program and services.
