Law students and recent law school graduates play a vital role in the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles' work to meet the legal needs of the poor.  Law sudents may extern for units or volunteer during the fall and spring semesters. We want to help you gain practical legal experience to complement your coursework. You may work on all aspects of civil litigation, handle client intake and legal advice, draft legal memoranda on a broad range of issues, and represent clients in administrative hearings.

Download an application and submit it with a copy of your resume, a statement of why you would like to extern or volunteer with us, and a copy of your school’s externship requirements (if applicable).

We are looking for talented, enthusiastic law students who want to help victims of domestic violence with family law and immigration issues, workers fight to gain their back pay, recipients of government benefits get their desperately needed support, and self-represented litigants learn how to file and argue their own cases.

You must be able to commit to a firm schedule.  The minimum commitment is 60 hours during a semester.  For information on specific opportunities, please use the links to the right.
