About the Position:

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) is the frontline law firm for low-income people in Los Angeles and is currently accepting applications for the position of Accountant ManagerThe Accounting Manager will work with a dedicated and dynamic finance team.

The Organization: LAFLA is a nonprofit law firm that protects and advances the rights of the most underserved – leveling the playing field and ensuring that everyone can have access to the justice system.  LAFLA seeks to achieve equal justice for poor and low-income people in greater Los Angeles. We change lives through direct representation, systems change, and community education.  Every year, LAFLA helps more than 100,000 people in civil legal matters by providing direct legal representation and other legal assistance for low-income people across the Greater Los Angeles region. Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge of fund accounting and cost allocation;
  • Experience with Abila MIP-fund accounting software;
  • Advanced computer skills on MS Office;
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
  • Minimum 5 years accounting experience;
  • Minimum 5 years of government grant billing experience;
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role;
  • Strong Excel skills;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to direct and supervise
  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance preferred and
  • Willingness to work beyond a minimum 7.0-hour workday to ensure project completion.

Examples of Duties:

  • Assist CFO in planning, implementation, and oversight of overall accounting strategy.
  • Oversee and manage general accounting functions, including, but not limited to accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
  • Help with year-end audit and program audit activities.
  • Work with CFO to assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Evaluating, developing, and improving department controls, systems, and procedures that increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.
  • Hiring, training, and supervising accounting staff.
  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
