Domestic Violence / Family Law

Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles’ family law practice focuses on helping survivors of domestic violence leave abusive relationships and rebuild their lives. We meet survivors where they are and provide access to a full range of critical legal services.

Get Help

We help survivors of domestic violence with matters typically related to family law, such as:

  • Restraining orders
  • Divorce
  • Child custody
  • Child concealment
  • Paternity
  • Child support

Survivors also have access to the full scope of LAFLA’s legal services, including:

  • Eviction and other housing issues
  • Government benefits
  • Immigration-related issues, including family reunification
  • Expungement
  • Employment
  • Student loan issues
  • Veterans issues

LAFLA partners with multiple organizations to offer services. See our list of resources.

LAFLA also offers a booklet (download below) on how to request a domestic violence restraining order; as well as self-help how-to guides that show you how to fill out many of the civil court forms for Los Angeles Superior Court.
