The Greater Long Beach Community
Medical-Legal Partnership

The Greater Long Beach Community Medical-Legal Partnership is a collaboration between the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and The Children’s Clinic, “Serving Children & Their Families,” a federally qualified health center in Long Beach. The Medical-Legal Partnership serves only The Children’s Clinic patients, and is focused on legal issues that can negatively impact the health of patients.

The Medical-Legal Partnership began in 2011 because medical staff at The Children’s Clinic recognized that patients had legal issues that caused setbacks in their health. Civil legal issues, such as poor housing conditions, loss or denial of public benefits, problems at school or work, or violence within the household are often beyond a doctor’s ability to help.

Through the Medical-Legal Partnership, The Children’s Clinic’s medical providers refer patients to a LAFLA attorney as part of a comprehensive approach to primary health care. All Children’s Clinic staff are trained to identify and refer patients with legal needs to the Medical-Legal Partnership. The legal team helps patient-clients with all areas of law that LAFLA practices through consultations, direct representation, community education and referrals.

A LAFLA staff attorney is on-site at the Medical-Legal Partnership every Monday and Wednesday from 9:00am to 4:30pm. The Medical-Legal Partnership is located at The Children’s Clinic’s Vasek Polak Clinic, 1057 Pine Ave., Long Beach, CA 90813. Monthly pop-up legal clinics are held the fourth Wednesday of every month at The Children’s Clinic’s 10 other locations. The Children’s Clinic patients needing legal assistance should call 562-264-4601.
