Disability & Disaster Hotline (Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies)

Provides information, referrals, guidance, technical assistance and resources to people with disabilities and their families with immediate disaster-related needs. 

Available 24/7. Accessible and multilingual information, including via videophone for Deaf callers, can be requested by email.

Temporary Housing (Airbnb.org)

Airbnb.org, a 501(c)(3) operated by Airbnb, is partnering with 211 LA to provide free temporary housing for people displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires. Click here to learn more and apply.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Displaced from your physical home due to the recent fires in the Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica and Sylmar areas
  • Currently reside in an evacuation zone
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must have or create an Airbnb account, which may include verifying identity

Temporary Housing (Maravilla Foundation)

Free emergency housing may be available in East Los Angeles, Lancaster, and Panorama City. Call (323) 869-4600 for more information.

Government Offices
  • LA County services and offices are closed Thursday, January 9 for the National Day of Mourning for Jimmy Carter; please visit https://lacounty.gov/closures/ for the full list.
  • Federal offices, including the United States Postal Service, are closed today in National Day of Observance to honor former President Jimmy Carter.
Schools

All LAUSD schools are closed on Thursday, January 9. Many other schools and school districts are also closed. Check the official list of the Los Angeles County Office of Education or this guide by LAist.

YMCA Facilities: Childcare and More

Many YMCA locations are acting as temporary evacuation sites and offering services including:

  • Shelter and showers
  • Childcare services for first responders and displaced families (5 years & up). Click here for details on childcare programs.
  • Basic necessities (charging phones, fresh water, etc.)
  • Mental health support or resource guidance
  • Safe spaces to park

Food

Many local restaurants are offering free or discounted meals for fire evacuees. This TimeOut article lists locations offering free food, while the LA Times has a list of locations remaining open and possibly offering discounts.

Financial Assistance

Jewish Free Loan Association

Emergency loans to cover the cost of evacuation expenses such as hotel or motel rooms, short-term rentals, and travel outside of the area. Zero-interest, zero-fee loans of up to $15,000 are available to eligible applicants. There are also a limited number of loans for up to $2,000 for applicants without access to guarantors, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here to learn more and apply.

Medical Care

Shower Access at Planet Fitness

Planet Fitness is providing free access to showers and its facilities to firefighters and residents displaced by fires. A gym membership is not required to access the facilities participating. For information and hours of operation, see planetfitness.com/gyms.
