LAFLA is currently accepting applications for the position of Legal Secretary.


• Minimum of one (1) years’ experience as a legal secretary or administrative assistant.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams), Adobe, and Zoom applications.
• Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Positive attitude with a demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with diverse staff and community members.
• Familiarity with civil law procedures, deadlines, and e-filing, particularly for the Los Angeles Superior Court.
• Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.

Examples of Duties:

• Perform secretarial and administrative support to multiple attorneys in furtherance of LAFLA’s mission.
• Provide case support, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading legal documents; filing and serving documents electronically or via mail; communicating with internal and external parties; and maintaining accurate litigation calendars.
• Create and maintain electronic and physical case files.
• Communicate with clients to collect and relay information and coordinate appointments.
• Perform various clerical duties, such as mail processing, photocopying, scanning, and office supply maintenance.
• Handle receptionist and/or front desk coverage, as needed, including screening applicants for legal services.
• If bilingual, provide translation and interpretation services.
• Contribute to the organization’s DEI plan and goals (via surveys, interviews, etc), supporting all DEI initiatives and helping to promote inclusion in a thoughtful way;
