Sheyda manages LAFLA’s nationally recognized and award-winning Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) Workgroup. 

Sheyda joined the MLP team in 2019 as a staff attorney overseeing Los Angeles’ County’s first Medical Legal Community Partnership site at Martin Luther King Jr. Outpatient Center. LAFLA’s MLP Workgroup includes legal clinics at TCC Family Health, Martin Luther King Jr. Outpatient Center, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, Long Beach Comprehensive Health Center, Community Medical Wellness Centers USA, and PPLA Inglewood Community Center’s Black Health Initiative (BHI). As an MLP staff attorney, Sheyda worked closely with health providers as well as community-based organizations and mentored and trained many of the staff and law clerks overseeing these clinics.

Sheyda began her legal career at LAFLA in 2015 as an Equal Justice Works Fellow with the Vista Affordable Housing Preservation Project which focused on preserving the affordability of HUD subsidized and HUD backed mortgaged properties. In 2017, she joined the Eviction Defense Center, defending tenant evictions primarily in affordable housing, including properties subsidized with HUD, LIHTC and Housing Choice Vouchers.

Sheyda obtained her BA from UC Berkeley and JD from the City University of New York School of Law.
