A federal judge has found the City of Los Angeles in contempt of a Court order that forbids the City from seizing and destroying bulky items based solely on their size — because the City posted notices that bulky items are prohibited in several neighborhoods.
In August, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and co-counsel Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Schonbrun Seplow Harris Hoffman & Zeldes LLP filed a motion in Garcia v. City of Los Angeles, alleging the City had violated the Court order issued earlier this year.
As part of the federal judge’s ruling, the City of Los Angeles is required to post remedial notices for two weeks in the areas where it posted the improper notices.
